About Me
I have been around horses most of my life (over 35 years now) and like most horsey people have learnt much of what I know from them and listening to 'other experts'. Some of their information was not that useful. But I have been extremely fortunate in meeting some amazing horse folk who have fantastic abilities and a special natural way with their equine friends. These people have been really inspiring.
A fairly long spell of chronic illness motivated me to finding new ways to 'get well'. This was the start of the journey I am now on and has led me to here. I believe we often need to make fundamental changes to our lives to get back into balance with ourselves and all that is around us, sometimes these changes are fairly simple, sometimes they take a bit of sorting out, but they are always worth it and the results can be staggering.
In my horsey life I have competed at most disciplines, Eventing, Dressage, Show Jumping, Team Chasing etc, I've run my own yard in the past and enjoyed a normal equine life (if there is such a thing!). My qualifications were not in equine studies but in agriculture, where stockmanship is paramount. Whilst I was competing regularly , I was never quite happy with my performance and that something was missing in the partnership. It was only later when I understood more about me that I realised why..... I had made too little room to listen to my horses.
Alexander Technique has taught me that we are all habitual creatures and live our lives in our own created patterns both physically and emotionally. The two are intricately linked. Firstly we need to become aware of what we do, before we can start to change the pattern. F.M. Alexander said "Stop doing the wrong thing and the right thing will happen". Sounds easy doesn't it, but when we respond in the same pattern every day of our lives it takes time to untangle the muddle we get ourselves into. A.T. has also taught me about the relationship between the head, neck and back (in both horses and humans) which can easily become stuck and shortened. By lengthening and easing the tension in these areas discomfort can be relieved and movement improved.
Reiki helps to rebalance energies within us at a subconscious level. It helps harmonise the physical and emotional self and enhance awareness. It was during my Reiki training that I really started to see how out of balance I had become at all levels and how to begin to sort it out. Working with horses at a deeper level certainly increases humility.
I have been working part time for the NHS as a Stop Smoking Adviser for the last 6 years, this has given me a wider experience in working with people who have very strong habitual tendencies and addiction. It has highlighted how we can all become stuck in our ways without noticing and how hard it can be to change if we; firstly, don't recognise these habits, and secondly, don't know how to break their chains.
